Sea Sunday:
Our appeal for Sea Sunday was postponed from last month due to the Deanery Appeal from the White Fathers, with Fr Willie Crombie. Gift Aid 2025-26:
For the tax year 2025-26, the Parish generated £29,866.87 through Gift Aid which demonstrates the immense benefit such a system has for St John’s.

Restoration Works Update:
Photos of the recent work on the roof and windows of the church have been posted on the parish website. You can get a close up of the bell, which in fact was the original bell from the church constructed in 1841, and was preserved after the old church burned down in 1941 due to an accidental fire. We are now into the 15th week of the works on the church which is mainly focused on the outside, while the inside brick dries out. The main work is focused on the windows and gutters and you can see the new membrane that is being put on the gutters with a 20-year guarantee. The insulation (polystyrene beads) which proved problematic has mostly been removed now from the cavity walls. It was bringing damp into the inside walls because of the water ingress from leaky gutters and windows.

We are also now looking at fan assisted heating in the church after a recent infra-red survey showed that the under-floor heating cannot be re-instated. Too much of it has corroded. This week the heating consultants will be looking at a specific fan assisted radiator heating system which will make the church warm at the level of the people who sit in the pews. We continue to pray for the success of this restoration work.

Sacred Heart Companions Prayer Group (Tuesday 11th August):
The Sacred Heart Companions Prayer Group will meet in St John’s Tearoom on Tuesday 11th August from 1;00pm until 2:00pm.

Kiltwalk / Paisley 10K (Sunday 16th August):
Anwar Rafiq will be doing the Dundee Kilt Walk to raise funds for the Restoration Work at St John’s this month. Can you please ask your friends and family to support him. Millions of Monicas (Tuesday 4th August):
A new Millions of Monicas prayer group is beginning at the parish of Saint Charles Borromeo, Paisley. They will meet on the first Tuesday of the month, starting on Tuesday 4th August, from 6:30pm to 7:30pm in the church. Women from surrounding parishes are welcome to join and gather for one hour of guided prayer, which always includes a Rosary for our children in need of God’s mercy and a return to the practice of their Catholic faith. All women are welcome. Many who come are mothers, grandmothers, aunts, and confirmation sponsors, following the example of Saint Monica in her perseverance in prayer. Loving and faithful God,
As a new school year begins, we place before you all our children and young people. We thank you for the gift of their lives, their curiosity, their laughter,
and the many talents you have entrusted to them.
Bless them as they return to school. Fill their hearts with confidence when they feel uncertain, with courage when they face challenges, and with joy in learning and discovering
the wonders of your creation.
Guide their teachers with wisdom, patience, and kindness. Bless parents, grandparents, and carers who encourage and support them each day. Help every school to be a place where truth is sought, friendships are formed, and every child is treated with dignity and love.

Pilgrimage for Life Carfin Grotto (Saturday 1st August):
The annual Pilgrimage for Life will take place at Carfin Grotto on Saturday 1st August. Led by Bishop John Keenan, the day offers an opportunity for prayer, reflection and witness to the dignity and sanctity of every human life. The programme includes: 12 noon – Holy Mass, 2pm – Eucharistic Adoration, 2:15pm – Stations of the Cross, 2:45pm – Divine Mercy Chaplet, 3:30pm – Holy Rosary. Families are especially encouraged to attend. All are welcome.

SCIAF Shield 5-a-side football tournament (Saturday 1st August):
SCIAF are encouraging parishes across the Diocese to sign up for this year’s SCIAF Shield. Their annual 5-a-side football tournament held in Shawlands takes place on 1st August. Parishes from across Scotland will be represented and take part in a day focusing on faith, football and fundraising. Everyone is warmly invited to a special celebration of the World Day of Grandparents and the Elderly at Carfin Grotto on Sunday 26th July. Pilgrimage for Life Carfin Grotto (Saturday 1st August):
The annual Pilgrimage for Life will take place at Carfin Grotto on Saturday 1st August. Led by Bishop John Keenan, the day offers an opportunity for prayer, reflection and witness to the dignity and sanctity of every human life. The programme includes: 12 noon – Holy Mass, 2pm – Eucharistic Adoration, 2:15pm – Stations of the Cross, 2:45pm – Divine Mercy Chaplet, 3:30pm – Holy Rosary. Families are especially encouraged to attend. All are welcome.

SCIAF Shield 5-a-side football tournament (Saturday 1st August):
SCIAF are encouraging parishes across the Diocese to sign up for this year’s SCIAF Shield. Their annual 5-a-side football tournament held in Shawlands takes place on 1st August. Parishes from across Scotland will be represented and take part in a day focusing on faith, football and fundraising. Millions of Monicas (Tuesday 4th August):
A new Millions of Monicas prayer group is beginning at the parish of Saint Charles Borromeo, Paisley. They will meet on the first Tuesday of the month, starting on Tuesday 4th August, from 6:30pm to 7:30pm in the church. Women from surrounding parishes are welcome to join and gather for one hour of guided prayer, which always includes a Rosary for our children in need of God’s mercy and a return to the practice of their Catholic faith. All women are welcome. Many who come are mothers, grandmothers, aunts, and confirmation sponsors, following the example of Saint Monica in her perseverance in prayer. Fatima Vigil in Howwood (Sunday 12th July):
The Fatima Vigil is held in Christ the King Church, Howwood on the 12th of each month from May to October. The next Vigil will take place on Sunday 12th July. The Vigil begins with a Rosary procession (weather allowing) at 7:30pm, followed by Holy Mass and Benediction. Refreshments are available in the hall afterwards.
Monthly pro-life Mass (Wednesday 15th July):
The monthly pro-life Mass is on Wednesday 15th July at 7:30pm at Holy Cross, 113 Dixon Avenue, G42 8ER. Adoration begins at 6:15pm. Tea in the hall afterwards – all welcome. The celebrant will be Father Alex Strachan.

Relics of Saint Gerard Majella (Saturday 18th July):
The Redemptorists around the world are celebrating the 300th anniversary of the birth of Saint Gerard Majella, an Italian lay-brother popularly invoked as The Mother's Saint. As part of this his relics will be visiting the heart of Edinburgh: Saint Patrick's Church, which was once home to a Redemptorist Community. It will take place on Saturday 18th July, with the entrance of the relics at 10am, time for personal prayer, and a Mass at 12:30pm. The Men of Saint Joseph (Thursday 2nd July):
The Men of Saint Joseph wish to invite all men over the age of 18 to join them for monthly fellowship meetings, including the rosary and lectio divina. “As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.” - Proverbs 27:17. Relics of Saint Gerard Majella (Saturday 18th July):
The Redemptorists around the world are celebrating the 300th anniversary of the birth of Saint Gerard Majella, an Italian lay-brother popularly invoked as The Mother's Saint. As part of this his relics will be visiting the heart of Edinburgh: Saint Patrick's Church, which was once home to a Redemptorist Community. It will take place on Saturday 18th July, with the entrance of the relics at 10am, time for personal prayer, and a Mass at 12:30pm. The Action of Barrhead Churches (ABC) is pleased to announce that it has organised a picnic in the Cowan Park on Sunday 19th July from 1:00pm-3:00pm. Please bring your own food, games and pray for sunshine!

SCIAF Shield 5-a-side football tournament (Saturday 1st August):
SCIAF are encouraging parishes across the Diocese to sign up for this year’s SCIAF Shield. Their annual 5-a-side football tournament held in Shawlands takes place on 1st August. Parishes from across Scotland will be represented and take part in a day focusing on faith, football and fundraising. A Night at the Movies (Friday 26th June):
Roll Up!! Roll Up!! Last Chance To Buy!! Come along to A Night at the Movies with the Barrhead Burgh Band this Friday, 26th June at 7:30pm in St. John’s Church Hall. Canon Desmond Berry Golden Anniversary of Ordination (Friday 26th June):
This year Canon Desmond Berry celebrates 50 years since his ordination with Mass at 6 pm on Friday, 26th June in St Andrew's Church, Greenock. All are most welcome. In addition, as part of the Golden Jubilee weekend, the parish of St Joseph & St Patrick's, Wemyss Bay are having an extended tearoom, from 11am until 1 pm on Sunday, 28th June to which everyone is invited. A Great Day at the St John’s Cup:
The weather was kind; support was fantastic and £1000 was raised for the Restoration Fund. Congratulations to Michael Gribben, a worthy winner.
A special mention to Mark and Julie Carlton for all the hard work they put into making it a fantastic Parish event.

St Thomas’s Afternoon Tea – Thank You:
A huge thank you to all who attended, gave donations of money, prizes, home baking and support for the Afternoon Tea held in St Thomas' Church Hall last Sunday in aid of SCAA.
The final total is £2,654 - a fantastic help towards saving lives throughout Scotland.

Monthly pro-life Mass (Wednesday 17th June):
The monthly Pro-Life Mass falls on Wednesday, 17th June at 7.30pm at Holy Cross, 113 Dixon Ave, G42 8ER. This day also marks the 25th anniversary of Cardinal Winning’s death, so please join us in prayer and thanksgiving for his legacy. Adoration begins as usual at 6.15pm and there be a celebration in the hall afterwards – all welcome. The celebrant will be Fr Allan Cameron.

Canon Desmond Berry Golden Anniversary of Ordination (Friday 26th June):
This year Canon Desmond Berry celebrates 50 years since his ordination with Mass at 6 pm on Friday, 26th June in St Andrew's Church, Greenock. All are most welcome. In addition, as part of the Golden Jubilee weekend, the parish of St Joseph & St Patrick's, Wemyss Bay are having an extended tearoom, from 11am until 1 pm on Sunday, 28th June to which everyone is invited. An opportunity to get together over tea and scones, to swap stories and mark this wonderful milestone for Father Berry.

Coffee Morning in St Luke’s High School (Wednesday 3rd June):
St Luke’s High School are looking for volunteers from the parish to participate in shared reading and discussion with S1 learners alongside a tea / coffee and some baked goods from 10:45-11:30am on Wednesday 3rd June. There is space for up to 15 parishioners who will be collected after 10:00am Mass and dropped back off at the church building. Diocese of Paisley Young Adults Sponsored Walk (Sunday 7th June):
Young people from across the Diocese of Paisley are raising funds for a pilgrimage to Paris in September 2026. They’re participating in a Sponsored Walk across the Greenock Cut on Sunday 7th June. The pilgrimage will allow the young people to visit shrines and landmarks across the French capital, and to celebrate Holy Masses in historic churches and basilicas.
