Annual SPRED Collection next weekend: Our Paisley Diocese SPRED offers people with learning disabilities: a personal friend who takes time to share life and faith, spiritual nurture in a small community of faith; and a sense of belonging to a parish community. Twenty-one SPRED groups meet in the SPRED Centre, our church halls and special needs schools, allowing two hundred parishioners to come together in faith and friendship to share and experience God’s love. Young Adults (18-35): In the next talk, You Knitted Me Together in My Mother's Womb, Fr Dan Fitzpatrick will discuss infertility, stem cell research and cloning. Please arrive at the Diocesan office before 7pm on Wed 1st March. The talk will be followed by an opportunity to socialise over drinks in a local bar. White Mass:  Mass for Catholic Healthcare Professionals and the intention of healthcare work in Scotland will take place on Sunday 12th February 2023 at 11am in St. Mirin’s Cathedral, and will be celebrated by Bishop John.

Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes: Takes place from 30 June until 7 July 2023.  Prices start at £859 Esplanade Eden, (15 min walk to the Domain) £919 foe Beau Site (12 min walk to the Grotto) and £984 for the Hotel Padoue. (3 min walk to the Domain, recommended if you struggle with distance).  Prices are per person based on 2 people sharing and does not include insurance. This Sunday Coffee/Tea Morning: All welcome to come along after the 10.00am Mass to the hall.
 
First Friday Parish Monthly Mass & Adoration: Mass begins at 7pm, followed by Adoration, Rosary & Night Prayer.
 
First Friday Children’s Rosary in St Johns: This Friday at 6.30pm. This is an opportunity, for children of all ages to gather together to pray the rosary. All families are invited to attend and pre- school children are very welcome. The idea is that children as young as 4 or 5 and up to around 14 can learn to lead the rosary and make the rosary part of their daily lives. The rosary only lasts around 15 minutes. Admission to Hospital: If you are due to go into hospital please contact Fr Joe/Jonathan to receive the Sacrament of the Sick before admission. Every hospital has a system to contact a Priest in emergencies; a family member simply asks a member of staff to contact the Priest on Call and he will visit. Other non-emergency visits can be arranged via the Hospital Chaplain if required. Due to Data Protection, the Chaplain won’t know you are in the hospital unless you inform him.

This weekend Special Collection - Sick and Retired Clergy: We remember our Sick & Retired Priests of the diocese with great love and affection. We have thirteen retired priests, still active in prayer and witness: one living in Rome, five in houses throughout the diocese, three in parish presbyteries, and two at the Residence of the Little Sisters and two in Chile. We thank God for the gift of these priests and keep them in our prayers. In 2021 our two special collections and Friends Campaign raised £47,513 which represents 33% of our expenditure of £144,938 i.e. a shortfall of £97,425, which was met by the Sick & Retired Priests Investment income.

Food Bank Donations: As a Parish we contributed 520 Kilogrammes of food. Thank you for your generosity.
 
Divine Mercy Monthly Devotions:  Divine Mercy Mass at 7 p.m. followed by Adoration on Wednesday 25th January 2023. The Mass will take place at St Mary’s Church, 163 George Street, Paisley PA1 2UN.

St Margaret’s Children & Family Care Society: This is the only Catholic Adoption Society in the U.K. They are very much dependent on the Crib Donations. The Crib will remain on the Altar until 2nd February, Feast of the Presentation of the Lord.
 
Reconciliation and Healing Service: There will be a Reconciliation and Healing Service at St Columbkille's Parish Hall, Kirkwood Street Rutherglen G73 at 2.30pm on Sunday 5th February.  Speakers, Rev Jonathan Whitworth and Joe Livingston.  The Theme - Finding Forgiveness.  All welcome.

Monthly Pro-Life Mass: The monthly Pro-Life Mass is on Wednesday, 18th January at 7.30pm at Holy Cross, 113 Dixon Ave, G42 8ER. Adoration begins at 6.15pm. Tea in the hall afterwards – all welcome. The celebrant will be Fr Douglas Green.
 
Valentine’s Retreat 2023: This free half-day retreat offers couples a chance to reflect on their love and commitment to each other, to God and to their community. It will be led by Annette and Paul O’Beirne, of Equipes Notre-Dame - Teams of Our Lady, which supports married couples in their vocation. They will share some of the stories and tools gathered over their 42 years together. The retreat takes place from 2-5pm on Saturday 11 February at the Gillis Centre, 100 Strathearn Road, Edinburgh, EH9 1BB (free parking onsite). Register at bit.ly/valentineretreat

Christmas Giving: Thank you for your very generous and wonderful response in donating Vouchers for our schools. You raised over £2,000 and £2,800 for Project Gambia. For the month of November £344.36 was sent to Aid to Church in need from St Anthony’s Box.

Feast of the Holy Family:  Friday 30th of December.
Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God: Sunday 1st January 23. We will consecrate the Parish and our families to Our Blessed Mother at all Sunday Masses.
Solemnity of the Epiphany: Sunday 8th January.
 
Repairs/Renovations in Church/Hall/ Grounds: We have very recently changed the lighting around the Church and Hall, House, to LED, which will reduce our enormous electricity Bills. We have also changed the lighting on the Sanctuary and Oratory and entrances to LED lighting and now have new hand dryers in all the toilets. We have also installed Short Wave Infrared Heating that can be left on during Mass unlike the Fan Heating which is extremely noisy and distracting. The boiler in the hall and tea-room will have frost thermostats added to avoid a repeat of frozen pipes. Unfortunately, the tea-room had a burst pipe and will be out of commission for the foreseeable future.

10 K Walk for Mary’s Meals: Congratulations to one of our young Parishioner and St Mark’s Pupil 7 year old, Michael Williams who raised £800 by completing a 10 k Walk in 2 hours, 45 minutes along with his parents for Mary’s Meals.

Along with Fr Joe & Jonathan there will be other priests available to hear Confessions. Also each morning this week except Mon, from 9.30am -10.00am and Christmas Eve 10.30- 11.am
 
Online Prayer event for young Catholic Adults aged 20-40: Join us for a post-Christmas rosary and reflection via Zoom on Tues 27th Dec at 8:00-8:30pm. Our events are a great opportunity to meet and socialise with other young adults. For more info and tickets email: 2040network@gmail.com

Christmas Giving Appeal: To help with families particularly in our schools who are in need, you may wish to donate Gift Vouchers. You can leave them in the box in front of the Our Lady Statue. Appeal ends this weekend in order to get the vouchers to schools before they close for the Christmas Holidays. No Cash please.
 
Christmas Flowers and Poinsettias: To help defray the cost of decorating the Church this Christmastide, you may wish to donate monies. There is a Flower Box in the porch to make donations.
 
Eucharistic Adoration on Tues/Thurs: We have only a few remaining hours to fill before we once again can have Eucharistic Adoration in the Oratory on Tues/Thurs. Tues 2-3pm 3-4pm 4-5pm 5-6pm and Thurs 2-3pm, 5-6pm, 6-7pm. You can complete a yellow sign up form available in the porch.   Oratory closes on Fri 23rd Dec to Mon 9th Jan.
 
Project Gambia: Volunteers from Project Gambia will be visiting our parish this weekend the 17th & 18th of December to update us on their work with Deaf children in The Gambia. They will be most appreciative of any support given, both prayerful and financial.
 
SYNOD 2021-2024: The Papal Synod timeline has now been extended, by a year, to 2024. The document for the Continental Stage has now been published and is available on the diocesan website homepage. This will be the focus of the European Assembly in February 2023. Please send any comments to Synod23@rcdop.org.uk
 
Diocesan Office for Pastoral Formation of Young Adults Pilgrimage to Lourdes: This will coincide with the Diocesan/ Youth to Lourdes Pilgrimage from 30th June to 7th July 23. The cost is £500 per person. If you’re aged 18-35 and would like to know more, or if you would like to register your interest, please email  (ryan.black@rcdop.org.uk)  (joe.mcgill@rcdop.org.uk). Deposits of £100 should be paid before the end of January 2023.

Rorate Masses during the Wednesdays of Advent (7am) The Rorate Mass takes its name from the opening words of the Entrance Antiphon. which come from the Prophet Isaiah 45:8: “Rorate, caeli, desuper, et nubes pluant justum, aperiatur terra, et germinet Salvatorem.”“Drop down dew, ye heavens, from above, and let the clouds rain the just: let the earth be opened and bud forth a Saviour.” This Mass is a Votive Mass in honour of Our Blessed Mother Mary. The Rorate Mass begins in the darkness of early morning and lit only by candlelight as the church becomes progressively brighter with the sunrise, so the coming of the Eternal Light, Jesus, whom we await during the Advent season, illuminates our faith in him as Saviour and Light of the World.

Diocese of Paisley Safeguarding Thought for the Month 2022: Each month we will have a safeguarding thought for the month to help us continue the focus on this important priority.  The Safeguarding thought for December is:

Communications Commission: The Diocesan Communications Commission (which meets every 2-3 months) is responsible for all diocesan communications, to ensure a frequent, consistent and synodal message. We wish to increase the number of representatives, especially recruiting people who are/have been engaged in media & communications. Mass of Commitment for Sacrament of Confirmation: The Primary 7 Pupils of St Johns and St Marks will make their promise of Commitment to prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation through Prayer and attending Holy Mass, this Sunday 27th November at the 10am Mass.
 
Advent Family Gathering – Sunday 27th November: You are warmly invited to come along to this event for families at St. John’s Barrhead from 2pm on Sunday 27th November. The event will include light refreshments, a family Advent wreath activity and Rosary, concluding with the celebration of Mass at 4pm."  No 5pm Mass on 27th Nov

Young Adults (18-30): The Diocese has organised a series of talks on the Divine Praises. The next and final talk of the series will be on ‘Blessed be God in His Angels and Saints’ by Fr Ryan Black. This will take place on Wednesday 30th November at 7pm in St Mirin’s Cathedral and will be followed by Benediction and an opportunity to socialise over drinks.
 
First Friday Children’s Rosary in St John's (2nd Dec) This Friday at 6:30pm. All families are invited to attend and pre-school children are very welcome. The idea is that children as young as 4 and up to 14 can learn to lead the rosary and make the rosary part of their daily lives. The rosary only lasts around 15 minutes. First Friday Evening Devotion (2nd Dec). Begins with Mass at 7pm followed by Adoration, Rosary, Benediction and Night Prayer.
