Next weekend: “Let the children live”. Fr Peter Walters will appeal on behalf of the street children of Medellin, Columbia and ask for support for the home he provides for many children he takes off the streets.

Jubilee 2025: The Holy Father will lead his second Jubilee, giving it the theme “Pilgrims of Hope,” beginning just before Christmas Day 2024 and ending on the Solemnity of the Epiphany in 2026. Hopefully and prayerfully this will inspire Catholics and even those from other faith traditions to make plans to visit the Eternal City during the Holy Year. You will receive short bulletin excepts of a catechetical nature covering the history, meaning and symbolism of the Jubilee which may help build our parishioners’ awareness and anticipation, as well as their knowledge of the particular aspects and graces that flow from it. The first extract will be sent next week.

Diocesan Pilgrimages to Rome & Assisi for the Jubilee Year 2025: Bishop John will be leading two pilgrimages to Rome & Assisi during the Jubilee Year 2025. Both pilgrimages will include 5 nights in Rome & 2 nights in Assisi. Flights with Jet2 from Glasgow Airport. The Pilgrimages are from 5-12 May 2025 & 12-19 September 2025. More details, including costs and booking contacts are available on the Diocesan website at rcdop.org.uk/2025RomeAssisi

New Lectionary: The book that contains the Scripture readings for Mass and the Sacraments is changing as part of the continuing process of revising liturgical translations. The new Lectionary will use the English Standard Version - Catholic Edition of the Bible and the Abbey Psalter. The changes are intended to make the biblical translations more faithful to the original languages, biblical scholarship, and to provide a text for use in liturgical setting that is more proclaimable. The Lectionary will become mandatory for use in Scotland from this Advent 2024.

New Lectionary: As a Parish we have had to purchase 1 of the 4-volume Ambo Editions (larger) and 2 of the 4-volume Chapel Editions (smaller) for our two Primary Schools. If you would like to dedicate a volume in memory of a loved one, please speak to Fr Joe Balmer. Each volume of the Ambo Edition costs £175; each volume of the Chapel Edition costs £100.

World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly – Sunday 28th July : The theme chosen by the Holy Father – “Do not cast me off in my old age” (cf. Psalm 71:9) – is meant to call attention to the fact that, sadly, loneliness is the bitter lot in life of many elderly people, so often the victims of the throw-away culture. In this year of preparation for the Jubilee, which the Holy Father wishes to be devoted to prayer, the theme of the World Day is taken from Psalm 71, the plea of an elderly person who reflects on the story of his friendship with God. To mark this day, the National Commission for Marriage, Family and Life are hosting a Mass on 28th July at the National Marian Shrine in Carfin at 3pm.

Sacred Heart Companions Prayer Group:  Meeting in tearoom this Tuesday 11th June from 1.pm - 2pm.

Funeral this week: Joseph Jardine on Tuesday the 11th of June at 10am.

Let Life Flourish - Holy Hour - St Mirin's: Holy Hour and Benediction on Monday the 17th of June at 7pm.. There will also be an opportunity to venerate the relics of St. Gianna Beretta Molla, Patron Saint of Unborn Children.

Assisted Suicide: Could you be a parish rep working in a diocesan group against the Assisted Suicide Bill before the Scottish Parliament? Reps will write to MSPs and encourage others to do the same; they will meet MSPs in their surgeries; they will call public meetings in Inverclyde, Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire, inviting local councillors, MSPs and MPs. Email Marianne at [email protected] for more info.

SPUC Parish Representative: The role of these Church Reps is to act as a point of contact and liaison between the Parish Priest and SPUC, so that as issues and initiative pertaining to the pro-life struggle arises, the Church Rep within our parish would be the one to take the lead on them. For example, if there was a petition that needed to be circulated, or if an SPUC White Flower was being organised in our parish, with our permission, the Church Rep would be relied upon to implement these initiatives. If interested see one of the priests.

Feast of Founder of Opus Dei- St Josemaria Escriva: Mass here in St John's next Saturday 15th June at 11am with confessions at normal time of 10.30am.
No 10am Mass.

Confiteor:
I confess to almighty God and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned,  in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do, through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault; therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin, all the Angels and Saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God.

Gloria: Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will. We praise you; we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory, Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father. Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us; you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer; you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen.
Glory

Nicene Creed:  I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I Believe in   one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made.
For us
For us    For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, (At the words that follow up to and including and “became man”, all bow.) and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day, in accordance with the Scriptures.

He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

The Mystery of Faith:
We proclaim your Death, O Lord, and profess your Resurrection until you come again.
Or: When we eat this Bread and drink this Cup, we proclaim your Death, O Lord, until you come again
Or:  Save us, Saviour of the world, for by your Cross and Resurrection you have set us free

Prayer to St Michael, the Archangel:

St Michael, the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.   May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who wander through the world, seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
