Sacrament of Baptism
The Sacrament of Baptism is the first Sacrament we receive as members of the Holy Catholic Church. It is the first of the three Sacraments of Initiation - the other two being Confirmation and Holy Communion. For most our baptism is celebrated shortly after our birth. However people can be baptised in the Catholic Church at various stages in life.
In the Parish of Saint John's there is a Baptismal Group, led by Rena Owens, which prepares the parents of the children to be Baptised. Their aim is to focus the parents on why they wish their child to be Baptised. A Baptismal Register is kept by the Group and on the anniversary of the child's Baptism he/she receives a card from the Group. As the child enters school, the Group will inform the parents of a meeting to explain the programme of Religious Education which the children will receive in primary.
For parents who wish their new born/children to be baptised in the Catholic Church, please speak to our Parish Priest after Mass, contact him by phone or send a message - details on the Contact us page.
