First Friday Children’s Rosary in St John's
This Friday at 6:30pm. This is an opportunity, for children of all ages to gather together to pray the rosary. All families are invited to attend and pre-school children are very welcome. The idea is that children as young as 4 or 5 and up to around 14 can learn to lead the rosary and make the rosary part of their daily lives. The rosary only lasts around 15 minutes. Eucharistic Adoration
We are hoping to extend Adoration in the Oratory to include Tuesdays & Thursdays. To do so we need more people to commit to one hour with the Blessed Sacrament at the same time each week. Many graces and favours come to us through this time spent with Lord. Vocations to Priesthood & Religious Life increase where there is Adoration as well as conversions and people returning to their faith. You can pick up a sign up form this weekend to return and place in the box beside the Sacred Heart Statue. No need for those already signed up to re-submit unless you also wish to sign for more hours on Tuesdays/Thursdays.
 
World Youth Day 2023 Lisbon Information Evening
Come along to this information evening at the Diocese of Paisley Offices (just opposite the Cathedral) at 7pm on Thursday 6th October to find out more about the pilgrimage! No commitment necessary. A recent BBC poll revealed that 15% of British women have experienced pressure or coercion to have an abortion that they did not want. This is a shocking reality, that the pro-abortion narrative seeks to suppress. This weekend Special Collection for Vocations and Ecclesiastical Students
​This collection pays for our Paisley seminarians studying in Rome.  In the 2022-23 term we will have only one student, whose seminary fees are around £20,000 per year. As well as supporting our student this collection goes to the upkeep of our Scots College in Rome. In 2021 total income for vocations was £32,869 which included £21,385 from the Covid-19 impacted collections and £8,834 from the Friends campaign standing orders plus other donations and gift aid. This total income of £32,869 represented 48% of our expenditure of £68,599, resulting in a shortfall of £35,690, which was funded from general diocesan reserves.

Novena to Prepare for the Arrival of Saint Bernadette’s Relics in Scotland
The relics of St. Bernadette have arrived safely in Britain and will soon be with us in Scotland.  In prayerful anticipation, I encourage you to pray the Novena available from your parishes in the nine days leading up to the arrival of the relics in Carfin.  This would mean the Novena prayer should begin on Thursday 15th September and finish on Friday 23rd September, the day before the arrival of the relics at Carfin on Saturday 24th September.

Message from Bishop Hugh Gilbert
The Bishops of Scotland are one with the Ukrainian people in their suffering. Bishop Kenneth Nowakowski – who joined us at our meeting in March at the beginning of the invasion of his country – has written a message for the people of Scotland to thank them for their support. He also asks for our prayers and has written a prayer for all of us to pray on the European Day of Prayer for Peace, Tuesday 14th September, the Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross. May the Ukrainian people who share in the sufferings of our Lord, know that he bears the cross of their suffering with them and that the power of His Cross can turn hatred to love, and death to life. We invite all Catholics in Scotland, members of other Churches and other Faiths, and all people of good will to participate in this Day of Prayer in our parishes.

Diocesan Day for Children’s Liturgy Groups – Saturday 20th August
The Diocesan Liturgy Commission will host a day aimed at supporting Children Liturgy groups in our parishes. The day starts with tea and registration at 11:15am, followed by talks from 11:30am onwards. The day will end at 2:30pm. There will be a series of talks on family engagement, the experience of a parish group, a look at resources, and information on safeguarding. Lunch will be provided. If you have any food allergies or intolerances, please bring your own packed lunch.

The Diocesan Liturgy Commission will host a Day for Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, and for anyone interested in learning more about the Eucharist. There will be 3 short talks, with opportunities to ask questions, ending with a period of Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, and Benediction. A light lunch will be provided. Pilgrimage to Camino de Santiago de Compostelo
A group of young adults are organising a Camino de Santiago pilgrimage from 18th July to 25th July 2022 which will include 5 days walking from Vigo to Santiago.  Total cost for flights and accommodation is £400.  If you would like to join them please get in touch with Stephen Jordan at [email protected]  Please express your interest by 20th June 2022.

Families are warmly invited to come together with Bishop John at St John’s, Barrhead for an afternoon celebrating family life. There will be activities for children, followed by refreshments for all! The day will conclude with Holy Mass at 4pm. No 5pm Sunday Parish Mass this day.

St Michael the Archangel Statue
A life size statue of St Michael the Archangel has been specially commissioned for a tour of Scotland. The statue will be in St John's from Wednesday 27th July until Wednesday 3rd August. More details to follow.

Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) – External Review
​The Catholic Church in Paisley is issuing an extraordinary appeal during the month of June 2022 to anyone who may have been affected by any kind of abuse at the hands of clergy or church officials. The Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) is conducting an external review of the Diocese of Paisley to hear from people with first-hand experience of how the Diocese has responded to reports of abuse. Fatima Howwood Vigils
On Thursday 12th May we will celebrate our first Vigil of our new season, which runs from May-October. The Church and hall will open from 7pm; Rosary procession around the grounds (weather permitting); Mass, followed by a period of Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament with Benediction. Bishop John will preside. This will give us the perfect opportunity to implore Our Blessed Lady for peace in Ukraine.
