Oratory
Whilst most of us lead busy and pressurised lives, the Oratory offers a place set apart where we can find some peace and quiet. In the Oratory at Saint John the Evangelist Parish, we know that within the Monstrance, Our Lord Jesus Christ is present in a unique way, The Oratory is the best possible place to seek some tranquillity and to listen to what God may be saying to us in our lives. That is why we keep our Oratory open and attended from 10:30am-10:00pm every weekday.
The entrance is through the door on the Sacred Heart altar side of the Church. All over the world, every day, thousands of people are praying quietly, all the time, to Jesus present in the Blessed Sacrament. |
A famous 19th Century French saint, Jean Marie Vianne (known as the Curé d'Ars) once described praying before the tabernacle in these words:
"He just looks at me and I just look at him". Closer to our own day, Cardinal Basil Hume said,
"It is a wonderful practice just to sit or kneel in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament". If you are able to dedicate an hour on a regular basis please see contact details within the Oratory, alternatively five or ten minutes in quiet prayer is equally rewarding.
