The Obligation to attend Sunday Mass and Holy Days
This will be reinstated on the First Sunday of Lent, 6th March 2022. There will, of course, be some people who do not have the confidence to return yet, but please encourage those who are fit and healthy, and confident, to return to Mass if they have not yet done so. The following measures should still remain in place:
  • the sanitising of hands on entering and leaving churches;
  • the wearing of face coverings;
  • continued good ventilation.
Please do not attend Mass or Liturgies if they are carrying an infection or have any symptoms of Covid. Please be aware of those around about you, especially those who may be more vulnerable.

SYNOD 2023 – Responses
Pope Francis has invited All Catholics to express their dreams, ideas and concerns in preparation for the Synod of Bishops in 2023. The pope's invitation to discern a path forward for the church stems from his belief that the Holy Spirit inspires all members to be missionary disciples, sharing core Christian beliefs by going out to the world. The diocese wants to hear your views, and a consultation document with questions that may help direct your response can be found on www.rcdop.org.uk. All responses to Synod23@rcdop.org.uk before 8th April 2022. All responses will be acknowledged. The Parish Council will also discuss the Consultation Document.

Pope Francis has established  the celebration of the World Day for Grandparents and Elderly. It will be on the fourth Sunday of July (25th July) near the liturgical memorial of Saints Joachim and Anne, the grandparents of Jesus. A Plenary Indulgence will be granted under the usual conditions: sacramental confession, Eucharistic communion and prayer, according to the intentions of the Supreme Pontiff during the solemn celebration he will preside over in St. Peter’s Basilica or at the various functions that will be held throughout the world.
The Plenary Indulgence will also be granted on this same day to the faithful who devote adequate time to actually or virtually visiting their elderly brothers and sisters in need or in difficulty (such as the sick, the abandoned, the disabled and other similar cases),” the note reads.

‘I have called you by your name you are mine’ Isaiah 43:1-2. This year’s conference will be free to view on YouTube and Facebook and shown over the weekend of the 9th – 11th July. This year we have some new and some familiar speakers who promise to uplift us in these unusual times. We also have a youth and children’s programme to encourage our young ones.

Ordination of Rev Joseph Mc Gill: St Mirin’s Cathedral 6th July
We pray for Deacon Joe McGill, soon to be ordained a Priest in our Diocese. We pray that Joe and all those preparing for ministerial priesthood may be ever conformed to Jesus, the High Priest. May they preach the Gospel with pure heart and clear conscience. May the Lord let them be shepherds according to His heart, single minded in service to God and the Church.
