SYNOD 2023 – Responses Pope Francis has invited All Catholics to express their dreams, ideas and concerns in preparation for the Synod of Bishops in 2023. The pope's invitation to discern a path forward for the church stems from his belief that the Holy Spirit inspires all members to be missionary disciples, sharing core Christian beliefs by going out to the world. The diocese wants to hear your views, and a consultation document with questions that may help direct your response can be found on www.rcdop.org.uk. The Joy of Love - Pope Francis on Love, Marriage and Family Life Come and learn more about the beautiful vision of God's plan for human love, marriage and family life contained in Pope Francis' Apostolic Exhortation Amoris Laetitia. To participate in the special year devoted to this exhortation, a series of 5 evenings explaining and exploring this vision begins on Thursday 17th February in St. Mirin's Cathedral hall from 7:30pm. Specially recorded videos by Pope Francis will be followed by short presentations on the exhortation, along with opportunities for discussion and questions, and a chance to socialise over refreshments. It will be on the fourth Sunday of July (25th July) near the liturgical memorial of Saints Joachim and Anne, the grandparents of Jesus. A Plenary Indulgence will be granted under the usual conditions: sacramental confession, Eucharistic communion and prayer, according to the intentions of the Supreme Pontiff during the solemn celebration he will preside over in St. Peter’s Basilica or at the various functions that will be held throughout the world. The Plenary Indulgence will also be granted on this same day to the faithful who devote adequate time to actually or virtually visiting their elderly brothers and sisters in need or in difficulty (such as the sick, the abandoned, the disabled and other similar cases),” the note reads. This is the practice of the laity to provide financial support to the Holy See to allow the Holy Father the means to respond to those suffering as a result of war, oppression, natural disaster, and disease. Catholics around the world contribute roughly £70M annually through this collection. Monthly Divine Mercy Devotions and Holy Mass This will take place on Wednesday 30th June at 7pm in St Mary’s Church, 163 George Street, Paisley, PA1 2UN and will be celebrated by Fr Joe Burke. The Divine Mercy devotions will begin with Holy Mass followed by Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and the Divine Mercy Chaplet. No booking necessary. This year’s conference will be free to view on YouTube and Facebook and shown over the weekend of the 9th – 11th July. Special Second Collection: Pro-Life (Day for Life) 29th/30th May
This collection helps the Diocese support pro-life causes with half of the funds collected going to the Bishops’ Conference pro-life fund. Apart from donating at weekend Masses you can donate easily to this by visiting our Diocesan website www.rcdop.org.uk and clicking on the ‘Online Parish Offertory’. This allows you to donate to any of the causes or parishes of your choice. Next Weekend 5th/6th June Monthly Building Fund Collection New Envelopes for Tax Year April 21/22 These are now available after all the weekend Masses. The box contains envelopes for each week and also the 12 Monthly Parish Building Fund & Diocesan Second Collections. Those who pay their weekly donation by Standing Order also receive a Box of envelopes but only for the 12 Monthly Parish Building Fund & Diocesan Second Collections.
