SMARTIES APPEAL
Thanks to everyone who helped with the Smarties appeal last week. Most parishioners received a tube of Smarties, and some have returned them filled with 20pences. One suggestion made was to include your GIFT AID envelope number on the tube or on a piece of paper inside or around the tube when you return them. This will allow the parish to claim back an extra £2.40 on each tube! If you did not receive a tube, or would like more, please take one. Enjoy the Smarties and return the tube filled with 20 pences. The tubes hold about £12 in 20p. They also take £1 coins. A new roof will cost about £70000. The roof is now 30 years old, and already over its lifespan.
YEAR OF FAITH
The Pope has declared a Year of Faith, celebrating the 50th anniversaries of Vatican II and 20th of the Catechism. This is an opportunity to deepen our understanding of the Faith and renew it in our lives.
‘’The renewal of the Church is also achieved through the witness offered by the lives of the believers. Christians are called to radiate the word of truth. That requires conversion.’’ Benedict XVI
Prayer cards are now available with a prayer to deepen our faith, and for the success of the year.

CHURCH BELL
Work is about to begin on restoring the church bell. This has lain dormant and silent for a number of years. Once it is back to working order, it will ring out the hours, announce the Angelus, call us to Mass and toll at funerals or peal at weddings. It is the original bell from the old church. It is one of the few physical links with the old church building. The restoration work is likely to cost an estimated £7000. This sounds like a lot of money, and it is! However, broken down into 365 days, it works out at £20 per day. Parishioners and anyone interested will be invited to sponsor a day. This can be in memory of a loved one, to celebrate a special day etc. A list will then appear on our website and in the church on a weekly basis with the names of those whose memory or celebration is remembered on that particular day. Details will follow in the coming weeks. A generous donation of £500 has already been made towards the project.
