Music at Saint John the Evalgelist Parish

The International Commission on English in the Liturgy [ICEL] have recently commissioned a set of Chants, some of which are in Latin as well as English. These chants are fully compatible with the words of the new translation of the Holy Roman Missal, 2011 and thus are suitable for use during Holy Mass.

The following mp3/mp4 tracks are sung by The Monks of Pluscarden Abbey, near Elgin, Scotland. Why not listen to them below and learn them for your full participation in the liturgy.

Kyrie eleison, kyrie eleison. Christe eleison, christe eleison. Kyrie eleison, kyrie eleison

At Saint John the Evangelist Parish we are blessed with four music groups.

Vigil Mass Music Group [Saturday at 4.30pm]

The group currently consists of two guitarists, one bassist, one flautist and several singers.

We generally practise in the Church from 4.30pm on a Saturday just before the Vigil Mass with additional practise sessions a few times per year for learning new music.

We aim to accompany the congregation in singing a good mix of traditional and newer hymns.

We are available to play at weddings and other Masses although we are limited to Saturdays and evenings as most of us are working or in full time education.

Anyone is welcome to join the Vigil Mass Music Group....and fear not. There would be no audition or test; no Simon Cowell style humiliation. We believe that everyone has a little bit of the X Factor in them! Our ethos is that we should glorify God by using the talents we have been given.

To join the Saturday Vigil Mass Music Group, please contact Anne Garry on 0141 587 5377.
