Parish Pastoral Council.  Please take time to nominate a person you think would be able and willing to represent the parish community at our quarterly parish pastoral council meetings. These meetings last about one hour and there will be an agenda so that people can come prepared to join in the discussion of items which will assist the parish priest in getting to know the needs of the parish community and to offer advice and prayers for the good of the parish. Please take a nomination slip from the porch at the back of the church and place it in the “post box” at the back of the church or hand it in at the sacristy. Please ask the person whom you are nominating if they are willing to be nominated and then please write down their name and contact number or email address. The meetings are not onerous and no one will be “given a job to do” at these meetings. The parish priest will select a group of 8 people from these nominations who will represent the parish community. Thank you very much. Fr John

Parish Helpers.  As your new parish priest, I will be asking you to share your talents with our parish community to help with the running of the parish activities, including liturgy, maintenance, admin, social events and so on. Please let me know what you are good at doing and join us in building up our parish community of St John’s here in Barrhead. I would like to form a new parish social committee. If you were already on one you may wish to offer your name. We need lots of experienced people as well as people with new ideas. Please get in touch if you are interested. Thank you and God bless you, Fr John

RCIA  The parish programme for initiation of adults into the Catholic Church will begin on Wednesday 16 October at 7pm. If you know of someone who may wish to become a catholic, please get them to contact one of the priests. The catechesis will take the form of  a weekly meeting which will last until Easter, when those who are ready will be invited to come forward for baptism at the Easter Vigil. Please pray for those who would like to become a member of our Catholic community of faith and love.

Children’s rosary group. Our next meeting is Friday 11 October at 6pm.

Catholic Mothers: exists to connect, inspire, and equip women in the vocation of motherhood. Our group runs every Tuesday mornings in the Church hall after 10am Mass-12.00pm. Meet ups are very relaxed, where mums or grandmothers can bring their children along to play while the mothers and grandmothers gather round the table with a cuppa, have a catch up and chat. The topics are usually connected to that week's circulated podcast episode, book extract, Saint or Feast days. For more information please contact: Rachel Callaghan (Core Team Member) 07508835310 Or e-mail: [email protected]

Annual Safeguarding Announcement: This year’s annual safeguarding announcement will be read out at all masses on Sunday 6 October to coincide with the Feast of the Guardian Angels.

Safeguarding: Please be advised that any church or group volunteer who falls into the latter category (i.e. has never completed Part 2 training) requires to attend the Induction Training by the end of November 2024, otherwise their volunteer status will be removed.  This has become necessary to ensure all volunteers are appropriately trained to the same level and to allow for forward planning for new volunteer training. Please see below for training dates and venues. Thank you.

Confiteor:
I confess to almighty God and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned,  in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do, through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault; therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin, all the Angels and Saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God.

Gloria: Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will. We praise you; we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory, Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father. Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us; you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer; you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

Nicene Creed:  I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I Believe in   one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made.
For us    For us    For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, (At the words that follow up to and including and “became man”, all bow.) and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day, in accordance with the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

The Mystery of Faith:
We proclaim your Death, O Lord, and profess your Resurrection until you come again.
Or: When we eat this Bread and drink this Cup, we proclaim your Death, O Lord, until you come again
Or:  Save us, Saviour of the world, for by your Cross and Resurrection you have set us free

Prayer to St Michael, the Archangel: St Michael, the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.   May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who wander through the world, seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
