St Vincent de Paul Society: 
The SSVP provide spiritual, social and financial support to anyone in need. We visit parishioners of St John’s at their homes or in local care homes. If you know of anyone who might benefit from this offer from the members of the SSVP, please get in touch by calling: 075123 02877 or speak to one of our members after Mass who will be collecting for the Society in the porch.
 
Sharing Our Faith:
In this Sunday’s Gospel (Matthew 16:13–20), Jesus asks: “Who do you say that I am?” Peter answers from the heart: “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Sharing our faith doesn’t mean preaching at people or having all the answers. It can be as simple as telling someone what Jesus means to us. This week, think about how you would answer Jesus’ question — and look for one small opportunity to share that answer with someone else.

The Requiem Mass for John Mackle will be celebrated at 10:00am on Thursday 27th August, the Requiem Mass for Patricia McAuley will be celebrated at 10:00am on Wednesday 2nd September and the Requiem Mass for William Greville will be celebrated at 10:00am on Tuesday 8th September.
 
Weekly Offerings:
If you wish to set up standing order instead of using church envelopes or the plate collection, you can fill out a standing order form at the back of the church and return it to Fr John.
If you pay tax on your income please consider signing a Gif Aid Form. You do not lose any money but the church benefits from this. Alternatively, you can set up your donation online. Parish bank details available from Fr John.

For the tax year 2025-26, the Parish generated £29,866.87 through Gift Aid which demonstrates the immense benefit such a system has for St John’s.

A warm welcome to the 20 parishioners who have joined the 200 Club since its recent relaunch – there are now 110 members. But there are still plenty of spaces and numbers available! Please consider supporting the restoration fund, while having the chance to win up to £100 in the monthly draw. Contact Karen McPhee on: 07923 564434 and she will allocate you a number. Piety Stall Reopens (Sunday 23rd August):
The Piety Stall will re-open on Sunday 23rd August. Volunteers are required after the 11:30am and 5:00pm masses.

Right of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) (Wednesday 26th August):
RCIA will begin on Wednesday 26th August at 7:00pm in the chapel house. If you know of anyone who would like to become a Catholic please invite them to come along for this first introductory meeting. You may wish to come with them too – you are most welcome. Fr John.
 
Social Committee AGM (Tuesday 1st September):
The Social Committee will be holding its Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 1st September at 7:00pm in the Tearoom.
This is the perfect opportunity to come along, find out what we've been up to over the past year, and discover how you can get involved in our fundraising efforts for the year ahead.
With autumn and winter always bringing a fantastic programme of social activities, we'd love to welcome new faces and fresh ideas. Everyone is warmly invited to attend.

March for Life UK 2026 (Friday 4th September – Saturday 5th September): 
With Bishop Keenan. Departing midnight Friday 4th September from Paisley St Mirin's Cathedral, with a pickup 12:30am at Glasgow St. Andrew's Cathedral. Arriving in London at Emmanuel Centre approx. 7:30/8:00am Saturday 5th September for the Exhibition, Mass, talks and stall. Assisted Suicide Bill, House of Commons (Friday 11th September):
Bishop John Keenan has issued a pastoral letter urging Catholics across Scotland to contact their MPs ahead of the return of the Assisted Suicide Bill to the House of Commons on Friday 11th September. Please contact your MP today and urge them to vote against. Vulnerable people in England and Wales must be protected, proper care strengthened, and compassion, dignity and support prioritised over assisted suicide. Children’s Rosary (Friday 11th September):
The Children’s Rosary will start back on Friday 11th September at 6:00pm in the parish hall.

Autumn Classical Concert (Friday 30th October):
The Social Committee is delighted to host an Autumn Classical Concert on Friday  30th October at 7:00pm in the Church Hall. We are thrilled to welcome performances from Ciara Gaffney, Alasdair Ball and Libby Hunter for what promises to be a wonderful evening of music. Tickets will be £10 and will go on sale soon. All proceeds from the concert will go towards the Church Restoration Project, so please come along, enjoy an evening of beautiful music, and support this important cause.

Youth to Lourdes 2027 (Thursday 1st July - Friday 9th July 2027): 
This will take place from Friday 2nd July to Thursday 8th July 2027. Further details to follow. Hall Toilets:
Could all parishioners ensure when using the hall toilets that they are left clean and tidy. Last week, the men’s toilet was in a poor state and had to be thoroughly cleaned after the Vigil Mass. Please ensure also that young children are accompanied when using the facilities.
 
Prayer to St Michael:
St Michael the Archangel, defend us in the day of Battle; Be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the Devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, cast into Hell, Satan and all the other evil spirits, who prowl through the world, seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
