Coffee Morning in St Luke’s High School (Wednesday 3rd June):
St Luke’s High School are looking for volunteers from the parish to participate in shared reading and discussion with S1 learners alongside a tea / coffee and some baked goods from 10:45-11:30am on Wednesday 3rd June. There is space for up to 15 parishioners who will be collected after 10:00am Mass and dropped back off at the church building. Diocese of Paisley Young Adults Sponsored Walk (Sunday 7th June): 
Young people from across the Diocese of Paisley are raising funds for a pilgrimage to Paris in September 2026. They’re participating in a Sponsored Walk across the Greenock Cut on Sunday 7th June. The pilgrimage will allow the young people to visit shrines and landmarks across the French capital, and to celebrate Holy Masses in historic churches and basilicas. St Mark’s Primary School Summer Fayre (Friday 29th May):
Everyone is welcome to join us for our Summer Fayre on Friday 29th May from 3:00pm to 5:00pm. There will be lots happening throughout the day including games, stalls, raffles, treats and fun for all the family. It’s a great opportunity for our school and parish community to come together and support our children while raising funds for the P7 residential trip.

The Tuesday Tea Room:
All monies raised by the Tuesday Tea Room contributes towards the restoration fund. The group recently handed in £145. They have made £2,288 since June last year which is a great total!  And they have also made a lot of cakes and sandwiches and cups of tea too! A red Missal and black, chiffon scarf have been found on the sanctuary. Please speak to one of the sacristans.

Communications Sunday:
This week, the Church marks Communications Sunday, a day to reflect on how the Gospel is shared through media, digital platforms, broadcasting and communications.
From parish social media pages and livestreamed Masses to Catholic television, videos and news coverage, communications plays an important role in helping people stay connected to the life of the Church.
The second collection this week will support the work of the Office of Communications and Evangelisation of the Bishops’ Conference of Scotland as it continues to share the Gospel through digital media, press, social media, broadcasting and evangelisation initiatives across the country.
Please take home a letter from Bishop Dougan on Catholic Media.
Please pray for all those working in Catholic communications and for all who encounter Christ through digital media.
 
Monthly Pro-Life Mass (Wednesday 20th May):
The monthly Pro-Life Mass is on Wednesday, 20th May at 7.30pm at Holy Cross, 113 Dixon Ave, G42 8ER. Adoration begins at 6.15pm. Tea in the hall afterwards – all welcome. The celebrant will be Canon Peter McGarry.
 
Young Adults Camino Fundraiser (Wednesday 20th May):
Fr Joe McGill will be doing a sponsored climb of Ben Lomond on Wednesday 20th May to raise funds for the Diocesan Young Adults Camino this summer. More details can be found here:

Legion of Mary Carfin Trip (Sunday 24th May):
The annual Mass of Thanksgiving will be celebrated at Carfin Grotto on Sunday 24th May. A coach will leave St John’s at 1:30pm and leave Carfin at approximately 5:30pm to return to St John’s. (Cost £10 per adult – children travel free). Holy Mass will be celebrated at 3:00pm. Anyone who would like to travel by coach is welcome to add their name to the list.
 
UPDATED NOTICE P4-P7 Pentecost Retreat Day (Sunday 24th May):   The diocesan Youth Commission invites children in P4-P7 to a Retreat Day on Sunday 24th May from 1.45pm-5pm. The theme is "Our Friends, the Saints: The Children of Mary." The Retreat takes place in St James's church and hall on Greenock Road in Paisley (PA3 2LD). It will include Holy Mass. St Mark’s Primary School Summer Fayre (Friday 29th May):
Everyone is welcome to join us for our Summer Fayre on Friday 29th May from 3:00pm to 5:00pm. There will be lots happening throughout the day including games, stalls, raffles, treats and fun for all the family. It’s a great opportunity for our school and parish community to come together and support our children while raising funds for the P7 residential trip.
A huge thank you to our very generous parishioners who have kindly donated raffle prizes. Your support and kindness are very much appreciated, and we are incredibly grateful for your continued generosity.

Mass for Marriage (Sunday 31st May):
Bishop John Keenan warmly invites all engaged and married couples, along with their families and friends, to St Mirin's Cathedral Paisley on Sunday the 31st May. The celebration begins with Mass at 11am, followed by a reception in the Cathedral Hall. Coffee Morning in St Luke’s High School (Wednesday 3rd June):
St Luke’s High School are looking for volunteers from the parish to participate in shared reading and discussion with S1 learners alongside a tea / coffee and some baked goods from 10:45-11:30am on Wednesday 3rd June. There is space for up to 15 parishioners who will be collected after 10:00am Mass and dropped back off at the church building. St John's Golf Cup (Friday 5th June):
Tee times for this parish event can now be seen on St. John's Facebook page and parish website, and there will be a list at the back of the hall/church, once the list has been revised. Family and friends are warmly invited to the clubhouse afterwards. Raffle prizes would be greatly appreciated. Prizes can be given to Mark Carlton or handed to Mary Hallan in the Sacristy. A special thanks to all who made the hall look so beautiful, including Michelle  for the flowers and the St John’s PTA for setting up the hall seating arrangement. Many thanks to all who cleaned and prepared the hall, We look forward to St Mark’s PS communions next Saturday.

ASCENSION THURSDAY MASS TIMES ACROSS THE DIOCESE:
Ascension Thursday IS A Holy Day of Obligation. Mass times can be found on the diocesan website at rcdop.org.uk/ascension. You can search by parish, by time, by location, or download a spreadsheet will all the schedule information.
 
Ascension Thursday Mass Times in St John’s are as follows:
Wednesday 13th May: 7pm (Vigil).
Thursday 14th May: 8am, 10am.
 
Piety Stall:
The Piety stall offers a wide variety of prayer books and religious objects. The stall will be open AFTER  the weekend Masses. Volunteers are needed, especially for Sunday 5:00pm Mass. Please contact Alison on: 07954693485
 
Parish Office:
Mass cards, forms, certificates, etc. can only be collected AFTER Mass from the Parish Office which is situated in the room off the foyer of the hall . If you need to see the priest after Mass, he will be available in the Parish Office in the back of the Hall after Mass. The parish office is also used for Confessions before weekday Mass and at the weekends, with green seats outside for those waiting for confession.  Anniversaries can still be handed in at the church house post box. SPUC Newton Mearns Wednesday 13th May:
The Society for the Protection of Unborn Children (SPUC) will be holding a launch event for the Newton Mearns Branch on Wednesday 13th May 2026 from 7:00-8:00pm in St Cadoc’s Hall (24 Fruin Avenue, G77 6HA). Come along to find out more and see how you can get involved in standing up for the most vulnerable in our society. All are welcome!
 
St John’s Primary Spring Fayre Saturday 16th May:
Please join us at St John’s Primary School for our Spring Fayre on Saturday 16th May, 12–3pm. Entry is free, with lots of fun for all ages including inflatables, games, stalls, food, and a visit from a local fire engine.
Come along and enjoy a relaxed afternoon with family and friends as we celebrate our school community.
 
A Family Day with Mary  Sunday 17th May:
Bishop John warmly invite you to join families throughout the Diocese for an afternoon of celebration and fun in honour of Mary our Mother! The day will begin at 2:00pm in St Francis of Assisi - Port Glasgow parish hall on Sunday, the 17th of May, and will include prayer, games, activities for children, and refreshments for all. We will conclude with Holy Mass at 4:00pm, celebrated by Bishop John.

P4-P7 Pentecost Retreat Day: The Diocesan Youth Commission invites children in P4-P7 to a Retreat Day on Sunday 24th May from 1:45pm-5:00pm. The theme is "Our Friends, the Saints: The Children of Mary." The Retreat takes place in St James's church and hall on Greenock Road in Paisley (PA3 2LD). It will include Holy Mass. All funds raised will go directly towards supporting our P7 pupils on their residential trip—an important experience that promotes independence, confidence, and lasting memories.
We would be especially grateful if any individual or business would consider donating a bicycle as a top raffle prize, which would help us generate even greater interest and fundraising impact.

A reminder of parking for Mass in the Hall & Seating At Mass:
The main car park will be closed; we can use the Hall carpark and the carparks at Cowan Park and at the weekends, Barrhead High School carpark. Stewards will monitor when the Hall carpark is full, so please take directions from them. Sunday 10:00am Mass goers please remember that the 11:30am Mass will be arriving at about 11:15am so please go directly to your car once Mass has ended.
Please also take directions from the stewards for seating in the Hall. Please can you sit in the middle seats, so that people arriving later don’t have to try and squeeze past you. Communion lines will start with the front rows in the Hall. Please be directed by stewards.
Daily Mass, Adoration, Confessions, and Rosary as usual. Saturday Morning Mass and Vigil Mass and confessions as usual. Sunday Masses and Baptisms at the weekend are at the normal times.
Funerals and Baptisms and Weddings will be conducted with due reverence and devotion in the Parish Hall.
